Alpine Airpark 46U – right now a perfect retreat from the hot temperatures: Beautiful 80 degree days and even better, cool 60 degree nights and starlight skies. Ever since the June AOPA article on the Alpine Airpark, the phone has been ringing and pilots flying in to see what all the fuss is about. The result; five properties in the last month have sold to happy pilot buyers from all over the Nation. Many of them have moved in already and fast becoming part of the Airpark community where fun, new flying adventures and good neighbors is what it is all about.
The Airpark recently hosted the AOPA Air Safety Institute for a morning seminar with George Perry. The Airpark encourages a culture of safety, helping all 46U pilots fly more safely. The seminar was well attended and George Perry did an outstanding job. Most of our pilots at 46U are also graduates of the McCall Mountain and Canyon Flight School in Mc Call,Idaho. Lori and her instructors run an excellent school and for those pilots wanting to experience the back country strips in the Frank Church Wilderness area on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River, Lori’s school is a must do. No matter how many hours logged, you will return home from the school a better and safer pilot.
And when we are not flying, fly fishing for many of our residents is a great outing. Alpine is at the confluence of the Snake River, the Greys River and the Salt River, all of them excellent dry fly fishing, especially the Salt as pictured with Refuge resident David and Guide Mike from Pioneer Anglers here in Alpine. At this time of the year the caddis hatch right before dusk is exciting or throw a golden stone pattern with a dropper during the day.
For those of you considering a trip to Alpine in the month of August, events that you can time your visit around are the Lincoln County Fair August 6th- 13th in Afton Wyoming, (about 40 minute drive from Alpine), the Jackson Hole Art Fair in Jackson Hole Miller Park August 12-14th, and the Alpine Car Show at the Civic Center August 19th and 20th.
