Spring time touches down at 46U

Today a balmy 73° F with no wind and the most glorious views surrounding the Airpark. The contrast between the blue skies, the snow covering the mountain tops, and the lush green at the lower levels is a photographers dream scene.

The Airpark is coming alive with summer residents arriving and the year rounders out soaking up the sun after the long snowy winter. On Sunday the number and array of aircraft taking off on Runway 31, tells the story of the growth & diversity at 46U – Husky taildraggers, Carbon Cub, Mustang Jet, Citation Jet, a Piper Meridian and yes, an AirCam! With perfect flying conditions everyone is more than ready to feel the freedom of the wide open Wyoming skies.

Upcoming is the Alpine Mountain Days June 26 – Sunday 28th. If you are ready to break free and get out and about, this annual Alpine festival celebrating the pioneers and mountain men of the early days is worth a visit, with arts and crafts, food vendors and Native American performances. The Mountain Days festival is, as far as we know going ahead, but for updated information check out www.alpinewy.org.

For those of us who love fly fishing as much as flying, the news from the South Fork is great.  With cold clear waters below the Palisades Dam, the reports of trout rising to PMD’s and Caddis are enticing. Stay in Alpine and spend a day on the river with a guide or stay at The Lodge at Palisades Creek, an Orvis endorsed Lodge with super guides and great food.

Plan on spending more than a day, as plenty to do here. The Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park have re-opened with the South and East entrances. There is no accommodation open within the park but with less tourists, a day spent at the park at this time would have to be a unique experience. The word is out with all the locals planning day trips with a picnic blanket and hiking boots being all you need. Again, check out the National Parks websites for any updates.
